Extruding the Face of a Subdivision Model

The Face Extrude mode extrudes the selected face of a subdivision model, similar to how the Push/Pull tool extrudes a solid object. However, the Face Extrude mode provides additional flexibility by adding new cage mesh entities that can be selected and edited in future operations.

To extrude the face of a subdivision model:

  1. Select the subdivision object to edit.

  2. Click the Edit Subdivision tool from the 3D Modeling tool set.

  3. Alternatively, double-click the subdivision primitive object with the Selection tool to select the object and automatically activate the Edit Subdivision tool.

  4. Click Face Extrude mode from the Tool bar.

  5. As you move the cursor over the cage mesh, its faces are highlighted to indicate they can be modified.

  6. Click on a cage mesh face to extrude, and move the cursor to change the object’s shape. As you move the cursor, the new shape previews.

  7. Click to complete the extrusion.

The direction of the extrusion is constrained to the picked face normal.
