Deleting Symbol Resources

When a symbol resource is deleted, all instances of the symbol in the current document can be deleted completely, replaced with loci to preserve the symbol locations, or replaced with a different symbol resource.

Blue symbols, which are inserted in the drawing as a group, cannot be replaced in this way.

To delete a symbol resource:

1. In the Resource Browser, select the symbol resource to delete, and select Delete from the Resources menu.

Alternatively, right-click (Windows) or Ctrl-click (Mac) on a symbol resource, and select Delete from the context menu, or select the symbol resource and press the Delete key.

2. If there are any instances of the symbol currently in the drawing, the Delete Symbol dialog box opens.

Click to show/hide the parameters.

Parameter	Description
Delete Symbol completely	Deletes all instances of the symbol resource in the drawing
Delete and replace Symbol Instances with Loci	Deletes all instances of the symbol resource in the drawing and replaces them with loci
Delete and replace Symbol Instances with	Deletes all instances of the symbol resource in the drawing and replaces them with the symbol resource selected from the symbol list. This option is available only if the current document has at least one additional symbol resource available to replace the symbol resource that is being deleted.
Symbol list	Select the replacement symbol from the symbol resources available in the current document
Replace Class	Select to replace the symbol instance’s class with the class assigned to the new symbol’s resource, or deselect it to retain the class of the replaced symbol
Always delete Symbol Instances completely/delete and replace Symbol Instances with Loci	When Delete Symbol completely or Delete and replace Symbol Instances with Loci is selected, select whether to always perform that action when deleting a symbol

3. Click Yes.

The symbol resource is deleted and each symbol instance is either deleted or replaced with a locus or the selected symbol.
