In addition to assigning universe and addresses for fixtures in 3D Studio Max, you can also customize fixtures with custom colors, gobos, and lens options.
Individual fixtures or multiple fixtures can be selected. When selecting multiple fixtures to edit, select a group of the same fixture type and use Mass Modify. In the General section of the ESP dialog box, the parameters of multiple fixtures cannot be modified.
Fixtures often require custom gobos in place of stock gobos. You can select unique gobo image files and assign gobo image files to specific fixture slots.
To specify custom gobos:
Select the fixture or fixtures.
In the Command Panel, select ESP Primitives from the Geometry Primitives list.
After a slight delay, the Vision Parameters dialog box opens. The Gobos section assigns the Gobo images for the selected fixture.
Click Wheel to display a list of available gobo wheels for the selected fixture.
Click on a wheel to select it for editing.
Click Slot to display a list of available gobo slots for the selected gobo wheel.
Click on a slot to select it for editing.
Click the button next to the slot number to select the gobo image file for the slot.
Filename displays the location and name of the custom gobo image file.
Repeat this process for any other custom gobos, and then click Apply to save the custom gobo image selections.
Fixtures may require custom colors instead of stock colors. You can select unique colors to represent each color available in a fixture.
To assign colors to specific fixture slots:
Select the fixture or fixtures.
In the Command Panel, select ESP Primitives from the Geometry Primitives list.
After a slight delay, the Vision Parameters dialog box opens. The Colors section assigns the colors for the selected fixture.
Click Wheel to display a list of available color wheels for the selected fixture.
Click on a wheel to select for editing.
Click Slot to display a list of available color slots for the selected color wheel.
Click on a slot to select for editing.
Click on the color box to open the Color Picker dialog box.
There are several methods for selecting a color. On the left, create a color using the gradient, HSV, or RGB methods. On the right, select premade colors from a list of manufacturers.
Alternately you can click Add Custom to save this color in the custom list. A prompt for a name of this new color displays. Type in a name and press OK.
To select a color from the manufacturer’s list, click on the list to the right side of the Color Picker dialog box. Click on the desired manufacturer to display a list of available colors, and click to select one.
Click OK to assign the color to the selected color slot.
Color now displays the assigned color for the selected wheel and slot.
Repeat this process for any other colors, and then click Apply to save the color selections.
Fixtures containing an animation wheel may require custom animation images instead of stock animations.
To specify custom animation:
Select the fixture or fixtures.
In the Command Panel, select ESP Primitives from the Geometry Primitives list.
After a slight delay, the Vision Parameters dialog box opens. The Animation Wheel section assigns the animation images for the selected fixture.
Click Wheel to display a list of available animation wheels for the selected fixture.
Click on a wheel to select it for editing.
Click Slot to display a list of available animation slots for the selected wheel.
Click on a slot to select it for editing.
Click the button next to the slot number to select the animation image file for the slot.
Filename displays the location and name of the custom image file.
Repeat this process for any other custom animations, and then click Apply to save the custom gobo image selections.
You can define a custom lens, lamp, or other attachment for fixtures. Depending upon the fixture type currently selected, different attachments may be available. Multiple attachments of different types can be added to each fixture.
To add custom attachments:
Select the fixture or fixtures.
In the Command Panel, select ESP Primitives from the Geometry Primitives list.
After a slight delay, the Vision Parameters dialog box opens. The Attachment section selects each attachment by type to add to the selected fixture.
Click Lens, Lamp, Color Scroller, or Other to display a list of available attachment types.
Select an attachment (if available) from the list.
After configuring attachments, click Apply to save the custom attachments.
