Smoothing or Sharpening a Subdivision Model

The Crease mode edits the sharpness of a cage mesh face, edge, or vertex, to produce a smooth or sharp subdivision object; it smooths a previously sharp object and sharpens a previously smooth one.

To simultaneously crease (sharpen) or smooth all the edges or all the vertices of a subdivision object, with the Edit Subdivision tool selected, right-click on the subdivision object and select the appropriate command (Crease All Edges, Smooth All Edges, Crease All Vertices, or Smooth All Vertices) from the context menu.

To smooth or sharpen a subdivision model:

  1. Select the subdivision object to edit.

  2. Click the Edit Subdivision tool from the 3D Modeling tool set.

  3. Alternatively, double-click the subdivision object with the Selection tool to select the object and automatically activate the Edit Subdivision tool.

  4. Click Crease mode from the Tool bar.

  5. As you move the cursor over the cage mesh, its edges, faces, and vertices are highlighted to indicate they can be modified.

  6. Click on a cage mesh entity to change the sharpness/smoothness.
