Concept: Applying Textures by Class to Objects and Components

While textures can be applied to individual parts of many objects, as described in Applying a Texture to an Object, it is often more efficient to apply textures to an object’s class or classes. Once a texture is assigned to a class using the Edit Class(es) dialog box (see Setting Class Properties), the class textures can be applied to objects automatically during creation or applied to selected objects from the Object Info palette. When textures are set by class, the texture of all objects in that class can be updated at once by changing the class texture.

Textures are assigned by class to renderable objects, including symbols and wall, roof, and slab components, by Applying Object and Component Textures by Class. Although the recommended workflow is to assign textures to each individual wall or roof component to be textured, it is possible to apply textures by class to certain frequently textured parts of wall and roof objects.

Roof faces, extrudes, sweeps, and floors contain additional renderable parts, but the Edit Class(es) dialog box does not make this distinction. Textures are applied by class like any other 3D object. Apply textures to the individual parts of these objects with the Object Info palette Render tab and not by class.
