Mapping Layer and Class Names

Prior to import and export operations, map the DXF/DWG or DWF layers to Vectorworks classes or layers as desired. Use AIA standard layer names, or create a custom set of names. Save custom mapping sets for specific clients for easier file import and export.

When multiple classes are exported into a single layer through mapping, the objects maintain their original attributes by having their attributes set to object instead of set to class.

Custom mapping sets and standards are saved in your user folder ([User]\Libraries\Defaults\DWG_DXF), and they are used for both import and export.

Creating and Editing Mapping Sets

To create and configure mapping sets:

Access the mapping dialog box during either import or export operations, as follows:

● From the DXF/DWG Import Options (or DWF Import Options) dialog box, click Advanced. From the Advanced DXF/DWG Import Options (or Advanced DWF Import Options) dialog box, open the Classes/Layers pane, and click Manage under the Classes/Layers heading.

● From the DXF/DWG Export Options (or DWF Export Options) dialog box, click Manage under the Class/Layer Mapping heading.

The Import (or Export) Layer Mapping dialog box opens. The import and export settings are slightly different.

Click to show/hide parameters.

Select a Mapping Set to edit, and select a Standard set of names to use for mapping.

The mapping list at the bottom of the dialog box displays all items to be mapped from the file being imported or exported. To map an item, select it, and then select the name to map it to from the pull-down list of class/layer names.

● During import, assign a standard class or layer name to the DXF/DWG or DWF layer being imported.

● During export, assign a standard layer name to the Vectorworks class or layer being exported.

When finished mapping, click Save and name the mapping set.

Creating and Editing Standards

To create and edit standards:

During either import or export operations, click Manage under the Mapping heading in the Import (or Export) Layer Mapping dialog box.

The Edit Standards dialog box opens.

Click to show/hide the parameters.

Edit the names in the list as needed.

When finished editing, click Save and name the set of standards.

Mapping set list	Select <None> to create a new mapping set, or select an existing mapping set to edit

Manage	Opens the Saved Mapping Sets dialog box, to rename or delete saved sets. Select a name from the list, and then click the appropriate button. ● Rename: Enter a new name for the set. If the entered name is already assigned to another set, you are prompted to confirm that you want to replace the existing set with the set being saved. ● Delete: When prompted, confirm that you want to delete the saved set.
Mapping
Standard	Select <None> to create a new standard, or select an existing standard to use for mapping
Vectorworks Class (on import) or DXF/DWG Layer (on export)	● During import, select the Vectorworks class/layer to assign to the selected DXF/DWG (or DWF) layer. ● During export, select the DXF/DWG (or DWF) layer to assign the selected Vectorworks class/layer.
Manage	Opens the Edit Standards dialog box to edit standard lists of mapping names (see Creating and Editing Standards)
Mapping list	● During import, lists the layers found in the DXF/DWG (or DWF) file, and the assigned Vectorworks class/layer name of each upon import. ● During export, lists the classes or layers found in the current Vectorworks file, and the assigned layer name of each upon export. Click a column header to change the sort field and sort order.

Name	Enter a name to add to the list of standard names
Add	Adds the Name to the Names In Standard list
Delete	Deletes the currently selected name from the Names In Standard list
Names In Standard list	Lists all names currently defined in the selected standard
