Applying Object and Component Textures by Class

Textures can be assigned by class to renderable objects, object parts, and to the components of objects such as roofs and walls.

To apply a texture by class:

  1. Select Tools > Organization to open the Organization dialog box.

  2. Select the Details view option, and then select the Classes tab.

  3. Select an existing class or create a new class (see Creating Classes).

  4. With the class selected, click Edit to open the Edit Class(es) dialog box.

  5. On the Graphic Attributes pane, select any fill Style other than None (otherwise the texture will not render).

  6. Click the Textures pane.

  7. Select Use at Creation to apply the texture to objects as they are created.

  8. In Object and Component Textures, click Texture, and then select the desired texture from the Resource Selector.

  9. Click OK to exit the Edit Class(es) dialog box.

  10. The class displays on the Classes tab of the Organization dialog box.

  11. If the object or symbol contains multiple parts/components to be textured by class, repeat steps 3–9 as needed.

  12. If the object has not yet been drawn, click the blank area to the left of the Class Name to make the class active.

  13. If the object already exists, apply the class to it. For some object types, the class name is specified in its settings or in the Object Info palette.

  14. Click OK to exit the Organization dialog box.

  15. Create the desired object(s). Objects are created with the specified texture for that class.

Applying Textures by Class to Wall and Roof Objects

Although the recommended workflow is to apply wall and roof textures by component, it is possible to set textures by class to certain frequently textured parts of wall objects (the left, center, and right parts) and roof objects (the top and dormer parts).

To apply a texture to a wall or roof part by class:

  1. Select Tools > Organization to open the Organization dialog box.

  2. Select the Details view option, and then select the Classes tab.

  3. Select an existing class or create a class for the wall or roof object or the object’s component (see Creating Classes).

  4. With the new class selected, click Edit to open the Edit Class(es) dialog box.

  5. On the Graphic Attributes pane, select any fill Style other than None (otherwise the texture will not render).

  6. Click the Textures pane.

  7. Select Use at Creation to apply the texture to walls or roofs or wall/roof components as they are created (Design Series required to create wall and roof objects).

  8. Select which wall/roof parts get their textures from the class, and then select the desired texture from the Resource Selector.

  9. Click OK to exit the Edit Class(es) dialog box.

  10. The class displays on the Classes tab of the Organization dialog box.

  11. Click the blank area to the left of the Class Name to make the class active.

  12. Click OK to exit the Organization dialog box.

  13. Create the wall (see Creating Walls) or create the roof using the Create Roof command (see Creating Roof Objects) (Design Series required).
