3D Modeling

The Crease mode edits the sharpness of a cage mesh face, edge, or vertex, to produce a smooth or sharp subdivision object; it smooths a previously sharp object and sharpens a previously smooth one.

To simultaneously crease (sharpen) or smooth all the edges or all the vertices of a subdivision object, with the Edit Subdivision tool selected, right-click on the subdivision object and select the appropriate command (Crease All Edges, Smooth All Edges, Crease All Vertices, or Smooth All Vertices) from the context menu.

To smooth or sharpen a subdivision model:

1.      Select the subdivision object to edit.

2.      Click the tool and mode.

Alternatively, double-click the subdivision object with the Selection tool to select the object and automatically activate the Edit Subdivision tool.

As you move the cursor over the cage mesh, its edges, faces, and vertices are highlighted to indicate they can be modified.

3.      Click on a cage mesh entity to change the sharpness/smoothness.

When in Crease mode, creased cage mesh edges and vertices are highlighted in a different color to facilitate selection and editing; creased faces are in effect surrounded by creased edges, so the edges are highlighted when a face is creased. Smooth entities are not highlighted. The highlight color can be changed in Vectorworks preferences: Interactive tab.
