Embodied Carbon Calculator

As targets for achieving net zero carbon in both construction and operation are set by governments and legislative bodies, the need to reduce embodied carbon emissions becomes more critical, as does the requirement for intelligent digital tools to assess it. Embodied carbon represents the sum total of emissions required to produce goods (such as a building material) or activities (such as transporting those materials to the construction site); the emissions are considered to be "embodied" in the product.

The Vectorworks Embodied Carbon Calculator (VECC) is a custom worksheet that is pre-formatted to help calculate embodied carbon levels of a project. It provides an integrated modeling and carbon assessment workflow, allowing designers to quickly measure the impact of their material and product choices on the carbon footprint of their project. You can download the Vectorworks file containing the VECC here (internet access required).

When you open the VECC file in Vectorworks, the Resource Manager allows you to access the VECC worksheet, which you can copy into other Vectorworks files. Sheet layers display information from the VECC User Guide, which is also available as a PDF.
