Exporting in Unreal Datasmith format

Command Path

Export Unreal Datasmith (3D only)

File > Export

Vectorworks can export 3D models for use with rendering applications with a connection to Twinmotion®, Unreal® Engine, and other Epic Games products that support the Datasmith format. An alternate workflow is to establish a live link that allows synchronized editing and data exchange between the programs; see Graphics live synchronization with Datasmith Direct Link.

Alternatively, use Datasmith Direct Link tool's Export File mode to export the file.

For Mac, this functionality is available only on OS 10.14.6 and later.

To export an Unreal Datasmith file:

Set the desired 3D design layer view.

Select the command.

The Export Unreal Datasmith Options dialog box opens to set the output preferences.

Metadata Options

Select whether to include Vectorworks object record data and/or IFC metadata in the Datasmith model. These data are used in downstream Datasmith-based applications such as Unreal Visual Dataprep workflows that require non-graphical data, or in apps that query and/or report BIM data. Inclusion of record and IFC data results in larger Datasmith models and may result in slower performance.

Basic data such as object name, object type, plug-in universal name, Vectorworks universal ID, class, and layer are automatically included in the Datasmith scene.

Specify the file name and destination.

The resulting file can be imported into another program compatible with Datasmith for additional rendering and embellishment. If a Vectorworks model is changed, and then re-exported and -imported into the other program, any Twinmotion/Unreal scene and material overrides applied earlier remain unchanged.
