Editing landscape areas
Landscape area objects can be edited from the Object Info palette or by clicking Landscape Area Settings from the Object Info palette. Alternatively, right-click the object and select Edit from the context menu and then click Settings. The fields in the Object Info palette are named similarly (but not always identically) to those in the Landscape Area Preferences dialog box, and roughly reflect the order in which settings are entered in the dialog box, for ease of editing. For landscapes using object styles, the parameters that are set by style display for informational purposes but cannot be edited.
The landscape area parameters are described in Landscape area preferences. Only the parameters that are different are described here.

Parameter |
Description |
Replace, remove, or edit the current style, or create a new plug-in object style for this object; see Changing plug-in object styles from the Object Info palette. Editing a style changes all instances in the file that use the style. |
|
Hide style parameters |
Hides the parameters that are set by style; these cannot be edited from the dialog box or Object Info palette |
Surface Area |
Displays the surface area of the landscape based on the surface area of the site model under the landscape area, if one exists, or based on the area of the landscape area polyline multiplied by the Area Increase Factor, if no site model is present. The units for the display are specified by Area Units. |
Projected Area |
Displays the projected area of the landscape on the site model; if there is no site model, the projected area is the same as the surface area |
Area Units |
Selects the units for area calculations |
Count |
Displays the number of plants in the landscape |
Edit Components |
Opens the Landscape Components dialog box for editing the structure that makes up the landscape area, as described in Creating landscape area components |
Simplification Tolerance |
When the landscape area is a site model modifier, enter a positive value to redefine the horizontal distance between the closest parts of two neighboring portions of the modifier. A longer distance simplifies the modifier polygon, reducing the number of source points that modify the site model. A shorter distance increases the number of source points that modify the site model. A value of 0 (zero) does not simplify the modifier. |
Area Vertex Count |
Displays the number of vertices created by the landscape site modifier to modify the site model |
Site Model Layer |
<Landscape Area Layer> specifies the site model that is in the same design layer as the landscape area. Alternatively, select the design layer with the site model to modify; the landscape area conforms to the first site model on the selected layer. When a 3D polygon landscape area is to be associated with a site model, select the site model layer from the list. The 3D polygon is set to the site model surface; the polygon has no fill in this case, and the plants, if any, are on the site model surface. |

Unit Price |
Specifies a general unit price (for indicating the price per square unit in worksheets) |
Price Code |
Enter the price code (such as a SKU number) |
Vertex parameters |
Edits the vertices of the path object that the landscape is based upon; see Editing vertex-based objects |

Texture |
If the landscape is set to display in 3D as a texture bed, the Texture drop-down list is enabled for the main area texture; the texture set for the Datum component, when components exist and are set to display, supersedes this texture selection. The texture can be edited with the Attribute Mapping tool; see Direct texture mapping. |
Other ways of editing the landscape area include:
Change the landscape area 2D attributes from the Attributes palette, which is especially useful when 2D plants are not displayed.
If plants that make up the landscape area change, they also change within the landscape area. Similarly, if a plant is edited from a landscape area worksheet (see Creating landscape area schedules), the plant object changes.
Change the landscape area tag appearance by editing its parameters from the Object Info palette, editing the tag class properties, and/or moving tag control points (these are similar to a plant tag; see Plant tag appearance).
To align landscape area tags for improved readability, use the Align/Distribute Leader Lines command (see Aligning and distributing leader lines).
Reshape the landscape area by right-clicking on it and selecting Edit from the context menu; the Edit Landscape Area dialog box opens. Click Path. The Reshape tool is automatically activated, to reshape the object directly in the drawing.
The Add Surface, Clip Surface, Intersect Surface, and Combine Surface commands can be used on a landscape area. See Editing 2D object surfaces.
