Deleting user-provided 2D components of plug-in objects

User-provided 2D components include those that you customize based on a plug-in generated component, or create by using the Generate 2D from 3D Component context menu command, in addition to those you draw manually. They cannot update automatically when the associated plug-in object is edited later, and may result in inaccurate viewport views. The user-provided components can be quickly deleted, restoring the plug-in object workflow where all instances update properly.

Alternatively, you may choose to edit the 2D component manually to match the new plug-in object parameters.

There are two easy ways to identify plug-in objects with user-provided 2D components:

The Delete User-Provided 2D Components option is available at the top of the Object Info palette, directly below the object’s coordinates, if the plug-in object has user-provided components; plug-in objects without user-provided components do not display this option.

The component view icons in the Edit list of the Component Edit palette (available when editing 2D components in object editing mode) indicate whether each component is plug-in generated or user-provided; see Creating 2D components for symbol definitions and plug-in objects.

To delete user-provided 2D components of a plug-in object or plug-in object style:

Do one of the following:

Click Delete User-Provided 2D Components in the Object Info palette of a selected plug-in object instance.

Click Delete User-Provided 2D Components in the Properties dialog box of a selected plug-in object instance.

Right-click on a plug-in object instance that contains user-provided components and select Delete User-Provided 2D Components from the context menu.

Click Delete User-Provided 2D Components in the standard Plug-in Object Style dialog box, either when creating a plug-in object style from an instance that contains user-provided components, or when editing a plug-in object style that contains user-provided components.

Right-click on a plug-in object style that contains user-provided components in the Resource Manager and select Delete User-Provided 2D Components from the context menu.

Within object editing mode with the Component Edit palette available, either click Delete User-Provided 2D Components in the Component Edit palette, or right-click in the drawing area and select Delete User-Provided 2D Components from the context menu.

The Delete User-Provided 2D Components dialog box opens.

Click to show/hide the parameters.Click to show/hide the parameters.

Parameter

Description

Delete

Click in the column to select which user-provided components to delete.

On Mac, press the Option key when clicking in a column to select/deselect all user-provided components.

Component

Lists all potential 2D component views for the object/style; components that are not user-provided and unavailable for selection

Contents

Indicates whether each component is plug-in generated, user-provided, or empty

Click in the Delete column to place a check mark beside the user-provided components you want to delete.

All selected user-provided components are deleted. If a plug-in generated 2D component is available for the object, it is restored upon deletion of the user-provided component; plug-in generated 2D components update automatically to reflect all changes to the plug-in object. If a plug-in generated 2D component is not available, the component becomes empty.

The component view icons in the Edit list of the Component Edit palette update to reflect the current status. If all user-provided components in the selected object/style are deleted, Delete User-Provided 2D Components becomes unavailable.
