Site Protection Server error messages
Vectorworks Site Protection Server errors
These error messages appear in the Command window or in the Debug log during runtime.
Message: Could not access the license
The license file is missing or corrupted. Make sure the license file is present. Reinstall the Vectorworks Site Protection Server software if needed.
Message: Error in license count or hostid
There is an incorrect license file. The remaining licenses are loaded correctly. Reinstall the Vectorworks Site Protection Server software.
Message: No license file for this host
The host name is incorrect or different in the license file.
There are multiple license files, and they all have an incorrect host name setting.
If there are several license files in use, the host names are added to all of them. If one host name has an error, but another host name is valid, that valid host name will be used for all licenses.
To avoid this error, use localhost in all license files.
Message: License module list displays rlm_roam instead of modules
Only licenses specified by the dongle can be loaded. Verify that the dongle is plugged in and that the light is on. If it is not on, try plugging it into a different USB port and/or restart the server. See if the dongle works on a different machine if possible.
Message: Duplicate license
Multiple licenses were found on the server. Delete the duplicate licenses.
Message: The following license has errors
The server attempts to specify the type of the error. Any unaffected licenses remain loaded. A license with a critical error cannot be loaded, and most likely contains an error related to the ISV, the product, or the version. Replace the problematic license by reinstalling the Vectorworks Site Protection Server software.
Message: Port nnnn in use
The default port number is already in use by another application or another instance on the server machine. Another possibility is that the Vectorworks server software and the service were launched at the same time, or that the port number was never entered.
Normally, if the port number is incorrect or unknown, or its status is busy, the default port number still can be used. However, if the default port number is already in use, the server waits until the port is free.
Message: Cannot create log file
A problem occurred when writing the log file to the server machine.
Using a log file is optional. By default, all errors are displayed in the Command window.
Verify the operating status of the server machine, and whether you are logged in with Administrator rights.
Message: Cannot set server lock; lockfile problems / Port 5053 in use; waiting / (rlm) Cannot bind Web Server port 5054
These messages almost always indicate that several Vectorworks server programs are installed on the same machine, and the other program is already running. For security reasons, multiple copies of the Vectorworks server software cannot run at the same time on the same machine. The Vectorworks server software and the service cannot be launched at the same time, even with unique port numbers.
Check the system for other running copies of the RLM server or the ISV server, and stop the process. Then, restart the RLM server.
Another possible problem is that another program is using the port. Use the "netstat" command to see if another program is using this port.
Some systems get this error, even when no program is using port 5054, if the machine's name and IP address are not present in the hosts file. Adding the hostname and IP address to the hosts file will resolve this problem.

On Mac, the RLM server (version 15.1) does not work with Safari. You may see this message, despite being logged in. Set the Mac to use a different default browser. Alternatively, clear all cookies for the localhost domain through the Mac's Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data parameter.
Vectorworks client errors
Message: Connection to server lost
Click Retry to attempt to reconnect.
If the connection could not be reestablished, check the following:
Verify that the network is working normally.
Verify the operating status of the server machine.
Verify the operating status of the Vectorworks server software.
If the Vectorworks server software was restarted, the clients become disconnected. Either retry the connection, or restart the client.
If a connected client was removed from the Vectorworks server software side, the client can no longer connect. Please contact your administrator.
Message: Can't connect to the server
Verify that the network is working normally.
Verify the operating status of the server machine.
Verify the operating status of the Vectorworks server software.
In the Login Settings dialog box, check whether the Primary Server is set to the username or host name. If yes, change it to the IP address.
Check whether the IP address and the port number of the server machine are set correctly in the Login Settings.
If the Automatically find servers option is selected in the Login Settings, deselect it and enter the IP address of the server machine manually.
Verify the server’s ISV options to see whether there is a restriction based on the IP address.
Message: Borrowing for the following modules doesn't allow an expiration time of day(s)
The allowed borrowing time is set to fewer days than the requested borrowing time. Try borrowing the software for fewer days.
Message: Borrowing for the following modules is disabled
The user is not allowed to borrow the requested modules. Only borrow modules for which you have permission.
Problem: The Vectorworks program is unresponsive
Shut down the software. A line stating "IN (client exit)" is added to the Debug log on the server, and the license is automatically returned to the server.
If no communication occurs between the server and the client for a predetermined length of time (the default is 1 hour), then the license file is automatically returned to the server.
