Design SuiteTranslating Data Manager settings

The Data Manager supports multiple IFC versions, but the mapping often must be different for each version. Use the automatic translation feature to make it easier to translate a file's data mapping scheme from one version to another.

To translate data manager settings:

From the Data Manager dialog box, click Translate to open the Translate Data Manager Settings dialog box.

Click to show/hide the parameters.Click to show/hide the parameters.

Warnings

Displays a summary of how the settings will be translated for all object types in the file

Save Report

Opens a dialog box to save the translation summary to a tab-separated text file for reference

Specify the source and target IFC versions, and click Translate to display a summary of the translation changes.

If desired, save the summary report.

To apply the translation, click OK; the translated settings display in the Data Manager. In the Objects list on the left, the names of objects that were translated with no issues are bolded. If there was a problem with the translation, the object name is highlighted in red.

Click each red name to display its mapping in the middle column, and adjust it as needed.

Mappings are translated as follows:

An object that has a user-defined mapping is converted to the target version. An object that has a default mapping has the default mapping as defined in the target version.

Records and custom Psets are transferred to the target version.

If an IFC entity or Pset is deleted or marked as obsolete in the target version, the mapping is removed and a warning is logged.

If a field from an IFC entity or Pset is missing in the target version, the mapping is removed and a warning is logged. If a field has a different value type, the mapping is transferred and a warning is logged.
