Mapping Layer and Class Names

Mapping classes and layers allows you to easily adhere to regional standards by selecting a standard and mapping the Vectorworks classes or layers to the appropriate export layers; you can also create and save custom mapping sets for specific clients for easier file export. If exporting classes as DXF/DWG or DWF layers, classes can be mapped. If exporting layers, layers can be mapped. When multiple classes are exported into a single layer through mapping, the objects maintain their original attributes by having their attributes set to object instead of set to class.

Predefined standards are located in Libraries\Defaults\DWG_DXF\Standards. Custom standards and mapping sets are created in the User Data and Preferences folder and can be shared with other users through workgroup folders to maintain consistent export settings within a company or team.

Creating and Editing Mapping Sets

To create and configure mapping sets:

  1. Click Manage under the heading Class/Layer Mappings in the DXF/DWG Export Options (or DWF Export Options) dialog box.

  2. The Mappings dialog box opens.

  3. Select the Standard to use for mapping.

  4. In the Vectorworks Classes/Layers list, select a Vectorworks class/layer to map.

  5. Select the New Name to which the class/layer will be mapped upon export.

  6. When finished configuring the desired mapping, click Save and name the mapping set; if you do not save before closing the Mapping dialog box, an alert displays, prompting you to save.

  7. Click OK to close the Mapping dialog box.

Upon export, the Vectorworks class/layer names are mapped according to the standard selected in Class/Layer Mappings.

Creating and Editing Standards

To create and edit standards:

  1. Click Manage under the heading Replacement Name in the Mappings dialog box.

  2. The Standards dialog box opens.

  3. To modify an existing standard, select it from the Name list under the Standards heading.

  4. Add layer names by entering the new name in Name under the Layers heading and clicking Add; remove layers by selecting them from the Layers in Standard list and clicking Delete.

  5. When finished creating the desired standards, click Save and name the set of standards; if you do not save before closing the Standards dialog box, an alert opens, prompting you to save.

  6. Click OK to close the Standards dialog box and return to the Mapping dialog box.

The new or modified standard can be selected for use from the Standards list.
