Borrowing and Returning a Vectorworks License

Borrowing a License

When a license is enabled for borrowing, the Vectorworks program can be used without connecting to the network during the borrowing time period. You can use Vectorworks products on business trips or in other situations when it is not possible to connect to the server. The Vectorworks Site Protection Server keeps track of the number of borrowed licenses and the elapsed borrowing time.

When several versions of the Vectorworks program are installed on the client machine, borrow the license in the most recent version. If you borrow a license from a previous version, and then try to borrow in a more recent version, an error will occur.

  1. Launch the Vectorworks program.

  2. The Login Settings dialog box opens, where licenses can be borrowed.

If the Login Settings dialog box does not open when starting Vectorworks, enable the display of the dialog box at startup from the Session tab of Vectorworks preferences, and restart the Vectorworks program.

  3. Enter the number of days you want to borrow the license in Borrowed license expires after: __ days, and click Borrow. The Return button becomes available.

  4. The maximum borrowing time period is 30 days.

If you try to borrow a license for longer than you are allowed, an alert opens; select a different time period. If you try to borrow a module that is restricted, an alert opens, showing the name of the restricted module. Select a module you are allowed to use.

  5. Click Info to view the license expiration date and the name of the borrowed module.

  6. Click OK to return to the Login Settings dialog box.

  7. Click OK to launch the Vectorworks program.

Returning a License

If you are borrowing a license for the duration of the selected time period, there is no need to return it. Licenses are automatically returned when their borrowing time period has elapsed. To return a license early, launch the Vectorworks program and connect to the Vectorworks Site Protection Server.

  1. Launch the Vectorworks program.

  2. The Login Settings dialog box opens, where licenses can be returned.

If the Login Settings dialog box does not open when starting Vectorworks, enable the display of the dialog box at startup from the Session tab of Vectorworks preferences, and restart the Vectorworks program.

  3. Click Return.

The license is returned. The Return button is grayed, and the Borrow button becomes enabled. The Vectorworks Site Protection Server increases the number of available licenses by the number of returned licenses.
