Concept: Plant Definition and Plant Database IntegrationSpecific plant definition parameters can be associated with botanical data from the plant database, including several parameters from the Insertion Options and Schedule panes, and all of the data from the Plant Data pane. The plant definition data can also update the information in the plant database.
For data to be exchanged, the plant definitions must be associated with a corresponding plant record from the plant database. This association occurs based on the Latin name of the plant.
The data exchange between the definition and the database can flow both ways or not at all, depending on the following settings and actions.
● When Update Plant Database with Vectorworks Plant Definition Changes is selected in the Choose Plant Database Location dialog box (see Accessing the Plant Database), any changes made to the plant definition are automatically updated in the plant database. When this option is deselected, the data in the plant database is not automatically updated when the plant definition data changes.
● Update the plant definition parameters from the plant database by clicking Get Plant Data from the Edit Plant Definition dialog box. Choose between selecting a plant from the database, and selecting one from a saved plant list (see Plant Definition: General Options).
● When the Latin name of the plant is known, another way to update plant definition parameters from the plant database is to click Update From Plant Database from the Schedule pane of the Edit Plant Definition dialog box. The plant’s Latin name is used to locate and associate with the correct plant in the plant database.
● Update all plant definitions at once with current plant database information (based on Latin name) by selecting the Update Vectorworks Document command (see Updating Plant Definitions from the Plant Database).
● When Update Plant Database with Vectorworks Plant Definition Changes is deselected, the plant database can still be updated with plant definition information by selecting the Landmark > Update Plant Database command. This command updates all plant database records that have new information in the corresponding plant definitions in the file (see Updating Plant Records from Vectorworks).
If you are using a plant database file from a version of Vectorworks prior to 2018, the synchronization of images between the plant definition and the plant database cannot occur even when using the Migration Manager during the version update, because the older plant database file does not include the new functionality. To fix this issue, export the records in the plant database with the File > Export Records plant database command. Then import the records into the plant database with the File > Import Records plant database command.
