Creating section-elevation lines

The Section-Elevation Line tool creates an object that serves as a reference line graphic for vertical sections and elevations, or as a cutting plane graphic.

In Design Series products, section-elevation lines have additional functionality.

● Link a section-elevation line to an existing viewport, for annotation purposes.

● Sync the line’s drawing title, drawing number, and sheet number with the linked viewport.

● Click Style on the Tool bar to select a resource from the Resource Selector.

● Click Preferences to open the object properties dialog box and specify the tool’s default parameters.

Parameter	Description
Style	Replace the current style with one from the Resource Selector, or use the unstyled option
Hide style parameters	Hides the parameters that are set by style; these cannot be edited from the properties dialog box or Object Info palette
Linked Viewport (Design Series required)	Specifies which viewport the line references. If the line was created while creating a section viewport, the information for the viewport is displayed, and cannot be edited. A red link icon is displayed next to a marker that isn’t linked to a viewport; the icon does not print.
Auto-coordinate (Design Series required)	For a line linked to a viewport, automatically displays the Drawing Title, Drawing Number, and Sheet Number of the viewport in the line’s marker. If the line defines a section viewport, deselect to enter this information manually.
Drawing Title/Drawing Number/ Sheet Number	Identifies the item the line references. If the line is not linked to a viewport, or if Auto-coordinate is deselected, enter the information manually. Otherwise, the information from the linked viewport is used.
Note	Optional text that can be displayed in the marker layout
Configuration	● Section: Draws a section marker at both ends of a straight or broken section line ● Partial Section: Draws a section marker at the beginning of a straight or broken section line ● Elevation: Draws a section marker along a straight section line at a control point, which can be dragged to a new location
Auto-rotate markers for readability	Automatically rotates a marker by 180 degrees when its angle is less than or equal to -90 or 90 degrees
Marker Scale Factor	Scales the marker larger or smaller by the factor specified
Use gapped line	For Section and Partial Section configurations, creates a break in the line
Gap Line Length	If Use gapped line is selected, specifies the length of the solid section line at each end of the section line

3.Click to place one end of the section-elevation line. To insert a multi-segment line, click again to define each segment. Double-click at the end point to finish the section-elevation line.

Editing section-elevation lines

Once a section-elevation line is in the drawing, you can use the Selection or Reshape tool to edit the shape of the line object.

The following additional options are available on the Object Info palette when editing section-elevation lines.

Option	Description
Style list options	● Replace: Applies a different style to this object ● Convert to Unstyled: Allows you to modify the settings and marker layout for this object only ● Edit Style: Allows you to modify the settings and marker layout for all objects in the drawing that use the current style See Creating styles for markers and drawing labels for details.
Create Section Viewport (Design Series required)	For a marker that is not already linked to a viewport, opens a dialog box to create a vertical section viewport (see Creating a vertical section viewport)
Navigate to Viewport (Design Series required)	For a marker that is linked to a viewport, navigates to the viewport
Reverse Direction	Reverses the marker arrow direction; for a section viewport that is defined by the line, also reverses the view when objects beyond the section plane are visible
Edit Marker Layout (unstyled markers)	Opens an editing window to change the geometry and text in the marker; see Creating styles for markers and drawing labels
Use different end marker	If the line Configuration is set to Section, specifies that the marker defined in the end marker layout will be used for one end of the section-elevation line
Edit End Marker Layout	If Use different end marker is selected, opens an editing window to create or edit a marker for the end of the section-elevation line; see Creating styles for markers and drawing labels
