Land03524.pngConfiguring and saving tag/labels

The default labels are associated with parameters that might typically be displayed for the various drawing objects. However, each label can be individually configured to display custom information. The custom label parameter configuration can then be saved in the drawing in the symbol definition; one symbol can be used to label different objects. The symbol definition can be edited to add labels, change the position of the labels, size of the text, and appearance, position, and size of the label design elements.

To configure and save a tag/label:

Select the tag/label object.

From the Object Info palette, click Edit Tag/Label.

The Tag/Label Edit dialog box opens.

Parameter

Description

Symbol

The currently selected label symbol is displayed. To change the label, click the symbol to open the Resource Selector. Double-click a resource to select it.

Save as Default

Saves the selected tag/label parameter configuration as a symbol definition in the active file, associated with the current object type. One symbol definition can store parameter configurations for several different objects. The Assign Name dialog box opens; provide a name for the symbol definition. Tag/labels are automatically saved to a Tag/Label Symbols folder.

Symbol Data Assignment

Each label field consists of a text object (#1#, for example) from the symbol. The text objects contain and display the value of the parameter once the value has been assigned. The currently selected display parameters are listed; select each field and then specify its display parameters.

Param

Displays the number of the currently selected label field

Value Type

Select the type of value to display in the current label field.

Associated Object Parameter: Displays one of the parameters from the object associated with the tag/label. The parameters update automatically.

Associated Object Record Field: When the associated object has record formats attached, the records and their fields are listed; select the record field to display. The label displays the value specified for the record field of the associated object.

Custom Value: Displays the custom value entered in Object Param/Value.

Object Param/Value

Depending on the Value Type, select the parameter or record field, or enter a custom value

Include Units in the Value

If the parameter or record value includes associated units, select the option to include the units in the label display

Send the Value to a Tag/Label Attached Record

Sends the Object Param/Value to the selected record field of a record that is attached to the tag/label object itself.

This is a convenient way of collecting object data in the attached tag record, and then displaying the values of all tagged objects in a worksheet based on the label record, rather than viewing the values per object type. See Creating reports.

Record Fields

When the tag/label object has record formats attached, the records and their fields are listed. Select a record field attached to the tag/label object, and its field value inherits the Object Param/Value.

Once you have set up the display for the selected tag/label symbol, click Save As Default to be able to reuse the symbol data assignment for other drawing objects. The tag/label is saved as a symbol definition and displays in the Resource Manager, where its layout can be edited if necessary, and it can be shared with other files.

The label information updates automatically.
