Export USD (3D only)

File > Export

Vectorworks can export 3D models, including 3D geometry, textures, and metadata to USD® file format. An alternative workflow is to establish a connection between Vectorworks and NVIDIA's Omniverse collaboration platform; see Connecting to the NVIDIA Omniverse collaboration platform.

To export a USD file:

Select the command.

The Export USD Options dialog box opens.

Parameter

Description

Geometric Detail

Set the geometric detail level for 3D objects with curved surfaces.

This setting is important for both export speed and for rendering performance in the selected export program. Low values result in smaller files and faster performance, but objects become more faceted. Higher values create larger files and render more slowly, but curved objects appear smoother.

File Format

Select whether to export a .usd, .usda, or .usdc file

Scene Graph Organization

Organizes the exported model by Vectorworks layer or by texture.

Organizing by exported texture can be useful for other modeling and rendering applications.

Combine objects

For scenes organized by texture, combines objects with the same texture into larger meshes; this will improve performance

Metadata

Select whether to include Vectorworks IFC metadata or record format data. These data are used in USD-based applications that require non-graphical data, or in programs that query and/or report BIM data. Inclusion of record and IFC data creates larger USD models and may result in slower performance.

Basic data such as object name, object type, plug-in universal name, Vectorworks universal ID, class, and layer are automatically included in the USD scene.

Select the desired export options.

Specify the export file name and destination.

A folder containing all USD contents is created in the location specified.
