ConnectCAD: Layout

The Layout Room tool creates a layout room, which is an optional container for equipment racks. Equipment racks can also be placed in a space object, which has the characteristics of a building space or room (see Creating spaces with the Space tool). Equipment racks placed within the boundary of the room or space will inherit the Room ID parameter or the space Name (from the Data tab of the Object Info palette) as a read-only parameter denoting location.

Alternatively, create a closed 2D shape and then select the Create Objects from Shapes command (see Creating objects from shapes).

Layout rooms can be stacked on top of each other or nested. Layout rooms can also be nested inside spaces, but spaces cannot be nested inside layout rooms. If layout rooms are nested, a dot (.) separates the container names in the equipment rack's Room ID parameter, starting with the outer container and ending with the inner container (for example, MAIN.AV1, MAIN.AV2).

To create a layout room:

Click the tool and select a drawing mode.

Do one of the following:

In Rectangle mode, draw the rectangular room shape, similar to drawing a rectangle in Corner to Corner mode.

In Vertex mode, draw a closed polygon shape.

Place polygonal layout rooms on architectural floor plans to define the location of non-rack equipment.

The parameters can be edited from the Object Info palette.

Click to show/hide the parameters.Click to show/hide the parameters.
