Problems with startup and authentication

The following section summarizes common causes of startup and authentication problems on the server or the client machine.

Have you set up a login and password?

If the password is blank, the server will shut down after ten minutes. Set up a password as described in Site protection System Menu.

Are you getting error messages when trying to log in with Safari on Mac?

On Mac machines, the Safari browser is not compatible with version 15.1 of the RLM. If your RLM server is version 15.1, set a different default browser on the server machine.

Are you logged in with a non-administrator account?

Administrator rights are required for installing and running the Vectorworks server software. If you are logged in as a user, log out, and then log back in as an Administrator.

Are any restrictions blocking access to needed folders?

To use the system, Read/Write (full control) access must be enabled here:

Windows: C:\ProgramData\Vectorworks Site Protection

Mac: /Library/Application Support/Vectorworks Site Protection/

and the Vectorworks installation folder for any account.

Are the time settings out of sync between the server and a client?

A large difference between the time stamp of the server and the client can lead to authentication problems.

Are the same port numbers set in the server license file and in the client login settings?

Normally, use the default value, 5053.

Did you enter the correct IP address in the Login Settings dialog box?

Check the IP address of the server machine, and correct it if needed.

Is anti-virus software or an operating system setting interfering with the server or client?

Verify the settings of your security software. Firewall settings may require adjustment.
