Design SuiteDoors and Windows

Vectorworks Design Suite products offer flexibility to create doors and windows to meet a variety of needs. You can use the Door tool, the Window tool, or the Door and Window Assembly tool to add individual doors and windows, to insert the objects in a curtain wall, or to design custom assemblies that combine multiple doors, windows, and panels of different shapes and sizes within a single frame. Use an object style provided in the Vectorworks libraries, select an item from a manufacturer's catalog, or create a completely custom object. Vectorworks Architect offers expanded capabilities, including information needed to conduct an energy analysis.

The Update Plug-in Objects command may need to be run on files containing doors and windows that were created in an earlier version of the software. This command converts doors and windows to the latest format; see Migrating from previous versions.

Once a door, window, or assembly is designed, you can create either a plug-in object style or (for doors and windows) a symbol, making it easy to reuse the same resource throughout a project or in other projects. Symbols define the geometry of an object; they can be inserted independently using the Symbol Insertion tool, or they can be used in door or window preferences (by selecting Use symbol geometry on the General pane), where they can take advantage of functionality such as embedded IDs and data, cavity wrapping, splays, and wall offsets.
