Vectorworks Spotlight provides a variety of accessory symbols for insertion, but you can create custom symbols as well. See Accessory specifications for restrictions on using symbols for accessories.

Symbols can have a separate 2D and 3D representation. The accessory object automatically uses the appropriate portion of the symbol. The symbol must have at least a 2D component; it also requires a 3D component to display correctly in 3D views. When creating clamp accessories, it is recommended that you place the clamp symbols in a class to control their appearance and visibility. See Creating symbol definitions for more information about the symbol creation options.

To create an accessory:

1.      Draw the accessory.

2.Select the accessory geometry, and select the command; the accessory is converted to a symbol.

3.Do the following to define the accessory’s default data, position, and behavior:

Required: Attach the Light Info record and specify the accessory parameters; see Attaching the Light Info record to an accessory symbol.

Optional: Define the accessory’s default insertion point using a layout symbol; see Defining the accessory’s default position.

Optional: If the accessory should be treated as part of the lighting device base, instead of the body, attach the Parts record and specify the Base part; see Attaching the Parts record to an accessory symbol.

The accessory symbol is available for placement with the Lighting Accessory tool.

To embed the accessory within a lighting device symbol, so the light can be inserted with the accessory already attached, see Lighting device specifications.

The accessory properties can be edited once the accessory is attached to a lighting device. Edit the accessory properties either from the properties of its associated lighting device or from the accessory Object Info palette, which only displays in Accessory edit mode. See Lighting device properties for more information about the available parameters.
