Plant Style Manager, Create Plant Style

Plant data in a spreadsheet can be imported into Vectorworks Landmark, and used to batch create plant styles by mapping the data to the plant style parameters and to record fields. These plant styles can then be edited, including attaching appropriate graphics, in the Plant Style Manager or the Edit Plant Style dialog box. This process can be used to efficiently create an entire custom library of hundreds or thousands of plants, with data appropriate to your region.

There are many ways to create plant styles. For an overview, see Concept: Plant styles.

To create plant styles from a list:

Select the command.

Navigate to and select the spreadsheet with data to import. Make sure the spreadsheet has column headers before you select it for import, or it may be difficult to map the data.

The Create Plant Styles from List dialog box opens.

Click to show/hide the parameters.Click to show/hide the parameters.

Parameter

Description

Saved Settings Options

See Using saved sets to save and apply saved settings

Source File Format

Select the imported file type; if the file is neither an Excel spreadsheet nor a tab-delimited file, select Other and specify the delimiter character

Plant Data

Source Data Units

Select the units of measurement used by the source file; the same unit must be used for all dimensions

Specify Plant Style Name

To create the naming formula used for plant styles, select whether to automatically populate the Main Name Field with the plant's Latin name, common name, or plant tag ID; if desired, select a prefix and suffix to be appended to the name

Data mapping list

Some of the data is automatically mapped to fields in the Vectorworks plant style. For unmapped data, or to change the default mapping, select the plant style parameter from the Target Parameter list to map the source data. Each mapped parameter's type displays for reference but can't be edited. If you are both creating plant styles and adding data to a plant catalog by selecting Add data to catalog, two target columns display; map the data to each separately.

The Target Parameter dropdown includes only parameters that aren't already mapped to a source data field, to prevent accidental double-mapping.

elect the source file and import settings, complete the name formula, and map the data to plant style parameters.

Plant styles are created based on the imported data; they are available in the Resource Manager and Resource Selector for the current file. The plant styles should be saved in a user or workgroup library, and can be shared with other files and other users, as described in Creating custom resource libraries and Exporting resources.

After the plant styles are created, you can view and edit them in the Plant Style Manager or in the Edit Plant Style dialog box; see Plant Style Manager and Plant settings for editing plant parameters, and Custom plug-in object styles without catalog options for how to set the by style/instance settings. You can also view and edit them from the Resource Manager.
