Objects and object instances can be removed from a phase using the Object Info palette by changing the selected instance's Phase Removed, then selecting Reuse to make it available for relocation or leaving Reuse deselected to demolish the object (see Managing object phasing on the Object Info palette.) However, the Demolition tool offers a method to quickly demolish or remove multiple instances in quick succession simply by clicking each instance to demolish or remove it, depending on the mode.
Unlike an unphased workflow, where a Vectorworks hosting object such as a wall automatically heals itself if you remove or move a hosted object such as a window, you must fill the opening yourself within the phasing timeline if you remove an object.
Use the Demolition tool to demolish an object completely, or to remove and preserve it for reuse. Only the active phase and future phases are affected; the object remains in all previous phases. You can use the Demolition tool to quickly demolish or remove multiple items in succession. Only objects that are available for demolition/removal in the active phase can be clicked; this maintains a logical and possible order of operations.
The Selection tool doesn't participate in phasing. If you select and delete an object with the Selection tool, it is deleted entirely from the drawing.

Demolish
|
Eliminates the object from the active phase and all future phases |
|
Remove
|
Removes an object from the active phase; it is preserved for reuse and can be immediately relocated in the same phase or stored for reuse in a future phase. Component-based objects, such as walls, slabs, and hardscapes, and temporary objects can't be reused. |
Demolishing an object
To demolish an object in the active phase:
On the View bar, select the desired active phase.
Click the tool and mode.
As you move the cursor over the drawing, objects that can be demolished in the active phase are highlighted; click the object to demolish.
Demolish mode can act on objects with an active phase status of Existing and Removed. Temporary objects can't be demolished with the tool; remove them on the Object Info palette instead (see Managing object phasing on the Object Info palette).
The object is eliminated from the drawing in the active phase and all future phases; it can't be reused later unless Reuse is selected on the Object Info palette, but it remains in previous phases. The following things happen automatically:
On the Object Info palette, the instance's Phase Removed is automatically set to the active phase, and Status in Active Phase is Demolished in the active phase and Past in future phases.
If the object has previously removed/relocated instances, so that it is listed on the Phasing palette - Removed Objects, Phase Removed is automatically set to the active phase, and the Final Operation is Demolished.
Depending on the data visualizations applied, you may or may not continue to see the object, and its attributes may change to reflect its changed status.
The tool and mode remain active, so you can immediately click more objects to demolish.
If you unintentionally demolish an object/instance you need to remove and reuse, select the object, set the active phase to the phase when it was removed, and select Reuse on the Object Info palette.
Removing an object for reuse in the file
To remove an object in the active phase and preserve it for use elsewhere in the file:
On the View bar, select the desired active phase.
Click the tool and mode.
As you move the cursor over the drawing, object instances that can be removed in the active phase are highlighted; click the object to remove.
Remove mode can act on objects with an active phase status of Existing or Demolished. Temporary objects can't be removed with the tool; remove them on the Object Info palette instead (see Managing object phasing on the Object Info palette).
The instance is removed from its location in the drawing in the active phase and all future phases; it is available for reuse elsewhere in the file. The following things happen automatically:
The instance is added to the Phasing palette - Removed Objects, and Phase Removed is automatically set to the active phase there and on the Object Info palette.
On the Object Info palette, Reuse is selected (for non-component-based objects; component-based objects such as wall, slabs, and hardscapes can't be reused).
On the Object Info palette, Status in Active Phase is Removed in the active phase, and Past in future phases.
The Place Object for Relocation option is available (for non-component-based objects) in the phase when the object was removed, so you can immediately place it elsewhere in the drawing. (See Relocating a removed object.) If you're not prepared to relocate the object, it will be stored for future relocation.
Depending on the data visualizations applied, you may or may not continue to see the object, and its attributes may change to reflect its changed status.
The tool and mode remain active, so you can immediately click on more objects to remove.
