Site Planning

There are two ways to place curbs by picking the edges of other objects in the site. With either method, you can pick the contiguous edges of one or of multiple objects to create a path, and you can base the curb on all the edges of an object, or on only some of the edges.

Associated Pick mode associates the curb with a hardscape or landscape area, so that if you change the footprint or location of the associated object later, the curb automatically adjusts to match. The curb is aligned level with the top of the associated obect by default; adjust the curb's vertical offset if the curb should not be level with the object.

For associated curbs, only the outside edge modifier (the front edge modifier if the curb is included in the hardscape boundary, the rear edge modifier if it's placed outside the hardscape boundary) is considered when interacting with the site model.

Freestanding Pick mode uses the edges of a hardscape, landscape area, wall, or polyline for placement of the curb's path, but the curb won't follow the elevation of these objects, and is not associated with the picked objects. To fit the freestanding curb to a site model surface, use the Reshape tool's Gravity mode; see Realigning the curb to a surface. In this case, changing the footprint or location of the picked object doesn't affect the curb.

To draw a curb based on picked edges:

Click the tool and mode, and either Select All or Select Individual submode.

Select All and Select Individual modes can be used in combination. For example, to pick most but not all edges of an object, begin using Select All mode, and then use Select Individual mode to deselect the edges that are not needed.

Do one of the following:

Click Curb Style on the Tool bar to select a resource from the Resource Selector.

Click Preferences to open the Curb Preferences dialog box and specify the tool's default parameters (see Curb preferences). The parameters can be edited later from the Object Info palette.

For an associated curb, you may want to confirm that the Place Inside or Outside of Associated Object's Edge setting is as desired, since that affects the placement. Like the other settings, it can be edited later if needed.

Move the cursor over one or more objects with edges that can be picked. The edges highlight.

Click an object, and/or click specific edges, as needed to place the curb. The edges that are picked remain highlighted.

Press Enter or click Confirm on the Tool bar.

The curb is placed, using the specified settings. When Use edge modifier is selected in curb preferences, red lines indicate the front and back edges of the curb's main component.

Optionally, create a style resource from an unstyled object (see Custom plug-in object styles without catalog options).

If the curb was placed with Associated Pick mode, the curb changes with the associated object. If it was placed with Freestanding Pick mode, the curb remains the same even when the object changes.
